<< @Changedmynameagain In the summer you get up at 4 o/c to cut the hay and two of you might cut an acre a day. Very hard times.>> Yes. I don't think many people have any conception of how much labor went into producing food. Even farmers take all their power equipment for granted.
I remember Barney Doonans old old house. So that will surprise ye !
Now, I'll just throw in this memory, I can't remember his name, but he played the fiddle at Francis O Rourke s wake in 4 Bredagh, he was a mechanic, I don't know what his life was like at home, or whether he just lived in a cabin, but he couldn't have access to hot water and soap, he was always covered in oil. His face was black with oil from his hard work, does anyone remember him ? Surely 1980's sometime.
Nice to see the old style and weather was good too😊
I remember going up to MC Gertys with Terence O Rourke (Hugh) Bredagh, he could cut hay like this, he used to slaughter the meat for Carrigallen to eat, sold by MC Gertys bros. Now, Reilly a young girl, did visit in the fields, with a hamper of sandwiches and fizzy drinks, bottles of orange fun from MC Canns. (his own shop) from that day to this was one of my treasured memories as a kid of happiness. Of course, you would go back a bit, to Kate Dolan in Drumbrick and her little shop the size of a room, she was a proud ole girl, still able to milk her cow. There used to be an old man in the house, he might have been an O Rourke living in the bungalow, Terry used to boil and egg for his breakfast in the kettle, probably of Mc Gerty and Rossmond auctionees, way back in the 50's, he might have been in his 90's. about the same age as John O Rourke my gt uncle of Crockeen who died 1974 born 1877. You would be lucky to cut an acre in a day with sythe. But it used to get done. Killegar still had a post office officially closed in 1937 any wonder why all the letters went missing. Lol. Two of our houses, Drumbrick, Frank Reilly's and Hugh O Rourke's, back to back over the field. Peter Donohue got Frank Reilly's for nothing and Hugh O Rourke's land of 17 acres had an application by John Dolan which is now covered by land commission trees. Way out the back in Drumbrick with a meadow opposite Drumeela Church. Nice grass belonging to Mary Ann O Rourke. There's paperwork for 17 acres with a family of Dolans and a house, but they must have employed a cheap solicitor because all that's out there is 17 acres of forestry. Ellen O Rourke died in a house on that land giving birth to a child in 1913. Medicine was unheard of. Also dying in that house was Bridget O Rourke formerly Gilroy so, for that matter, no one good, could have any luck on that land, only the devils children. The house was made of mud and it fell to the ground in 1951. Frank Reilly's house was made of stone. In 1969 it got knocked over by a little dealer Donohue, who's mother in law, was my grandmother's first cousin. There's others, Mrs Rudden, RIP. Mr and Mrs Hacket. RIP. John Joe Smyth. Masterson. The mechanic, I can't remember his name, always covered in black motor oil. All rest in peace. Just think Frank Reilly in this photograph is Philomena Donohue's uncle. I'd say her mother is one of the bridesmaids standing on the right hand side of the picture. The other bridesmaids Hartes mother from the big Hartes Hotel in Carrigallen. The old Ireland, emerging out of darkness that came with the British empire. Not the old nonsense in Ireland at the moment. Real people, with real talents for change, getting it and giving it away.
Beautiful...
Thats lovely !
Terrific.
whats the easiest way to pulll hay out of such a stack ? seems to be well compacted
Still marveling at this brilliant version of a great song. I watch it more than any other video on UA-cam.

Thrilled! I will wait near their front door on Main Street. I think there is a bench...nearly 40 years, huh?
40 years! Yes. I look pretty much the same. Tall, thinnish, silver streaked hair, and a well used face. Lol. See you soon!
11:30 it is...
Great. I will see you there. Let me know if anything comes up. Looking forward to reconnecting.
Hey Leslie, I am 18 days post covid and I still have not tested negative. If you would feel more comfortable waiting another week I totally understand. Just wanted to give you the option.
Let’s reschedule! I hope you get this. I will keep checking. I think it’s best.
Sorry, I’ve been busy away from the house. I’m okay with meeting you...
I think I need a little more time. I did have a relapse this past weekend and it’s been hard to get my strength back. Can we move to next week? Also, I am going to post my number and then delete it once you have it
Mr. David Lee Roth? I still giggle when I think of some of those days. We could meet in Stillwater...not after the late gig but perhaps lunch?
OMG. David Lee Roth. Was it you that was with me when we met them? lol. I could meet in Stillwater for lunch. I am retired now, haha, so my time is pretty much my own. We could meet at the end of June. What works for you?
If only I was this good, very nice.
Best song I ever did in the Charley Farrelly Folk Club!
Nice bit of work, you would have a wee bit of trouble getting the young lads to do that today
Cracking Job

Beautiful tribute Tony 💕
Thank you Linda. I'm off Facebook for a while as I've has a big hack with no way currently back on.Let you kbow...thanks for all of you support.
The labor of seven men needed just to stack the hay! Then there was the need for those seven men to scythe down the grass, and then when it was dry to fork it into a cart so that it could be carried to the rick. You can begin to imagine why food was so expensive and consumed most of the labor of men. Not much time or wealth left over to watch porn on the internet or go cruising in the Caribbean. When we decarbonize the economy of the world, this is the future that awaits us ---again.
In the summer you get up at 4 o/c to cut the hay and two of you might cut an acre a day. Very hard times.
Shame about acoustics and chopping but good vocal and always feel this song it's so intensely touching.. Truth shall set you free... Big Shot🍸 I cleaned that up 😇
Very nice….☮️🎶🔛🌎
Grand job
